Thanks for reporting this bug to us. I'm able to reproduce the issue you mention. We will get this fixed.

To get it to work right now:
There is still an easy way to get the widgets to work properly. You can add the widget to your widget area and reload the page. After reloading, you can upload/change the image you want to use.

Fixed in MD5.1.1.

Reason: WP admin media library not loaded on widget creation.

I will check this again, but simply reloading the page after creating the widget will bring the media library back.

Hm.
So what's happening is:

1. I click upload image.
2. It takes me to media library.
3. I select an image.
4. It starts loading, swiping down from grey to the image being visible.
5. It loads a PORTION of the way down and then stops - leaving a grey bar of unloaded-ness at the bottom.
6. It says that it's saved. So I hit done.
7. I reload the page and it has reset to nothin'.

So here's the (wonky) workflow I went through:
  1. Added Content Spotlight (an MD widget) to sidebar
  2. Refreshed the page and opened the widget to get into the Media uploader
  3. (another thing we can improve) Inserting an image doesn't trigger the save, so I enabled/disabled another option to enable the save button
  4. Saved widget
A couple of things we still need to improve but here is the video of that workflow:
